Mary had a yellow dress Bought from the department store. It looked as beautiful as the moon,

And as bright as the sun. Mary wore all the time The yellow dress I felt so right.

Every day from day to night I saw her in the dress so bright.

“Buy me a yellow dress.” I cried to Mom and Dad, “As beautiful and bright

As the dress the girl living near has!” I cried and cried and cried, Until they said with sad eyes, “We need food for your baby sister. And clothes for your coming brother.”

Do some colors make you feel calm while others give you energy? Scientists have been studying the connection between colors and moods for a long time. Many believe that colors can affect our moods.

Warm, bright colors such as yellow, red, and orange are active colors. They can give people a positive feeling, and they encourage conversations. Cool colors such as blue, purple, and green are relaxing colors. They help people experience calm feelings. Many public places are decorated with certain colors in order to create certain moods. Orange makes people feel hungry, and many restaurants are painted this color. Quiet colors like gray and beige are relaxing. These colors are common in doctors’ offices and hospitals.

People also use colors in their homes to create moods. Warm colors make a room feel warm and comfortable. Yellow is a warm and energizing color. It might be a good color for a kitchen because it can help you wake up during breakfast. Blue is a peaceful color. It helps you rest, so it is a very good color for a bedroom. Green is another good color for a bedroom because it is refreshing. Colors can create negative moods, too. Some kinds of blue make people feel sad. Red can give people energy, or it can make people feel angry.

What is your mood right now? Do you feel full of energy or relaxed, sad or angry? Now look at the color of the walls around you. Does it match your mood?
