FFICERS A professional training workshop on computer crime investigation and computer forensic technology will be held at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) from 7 to 25 January 2000.The workshop is organized by HKUST’s Cyberspace Center, and sponsored by the Hong Kong Police Force and the Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC). Participants are mainly officers from the Hong Kong Police Force, ICAC, Immigration Department, Customs and Excise Department, and counsels from the Department of Justice.
It will focus on computer forensic examination, how operating systems manage files and track activities, Internet and e-commerce, network security and related legal issues.
“The first of its kind in Asia, the workshop is tailormade for Hong Kong and the region,” said Prof Samuel Chanson, Director of HKUST’s Cyberspace Center, adding, “It will last for 11 full days, and examine all major popular operating systems, including DOS, Windows 95/98, Windows NT and LINUX.”
Prof Chanson will speak on Internet security and e-commerce at the workshop. He will be joined by Mr Hilton Chan, head of the Computer Crime Section of the Hong Kong Police Force; Dr Man Hoi Choy, assistant professor at the Computer Science Department and an expert in cryptography; government counsels from the Department of Justice and computer experts from HKUST. In addition to lectures, demonstrations and hands-on laboratory sessions will also be included.
