HKUST WELCOMES NEW TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTRE HEAD Armed with a unique combination of business and academic experience, Dr. Keith White-Hunt comes to the University of Science and Technology as Director of the Technology Transfer Centre (TTC).
Dr. White-Hunt has spent the last 15 years in business, but has also worked hard to keep one foot firmly in the academic world.
He has a Master of Science in Industrial Technology and Management from the University of Bradford, England, a Doctor of Science in International Business Economics from the University of Lodz in Poland, and more than 50 publications to his credit.
Much of his time in business was spent starting up new ventures using new technologies. This experience will be invaluable in his new post, where he sees his principal role as being “to commercialize technology which is generated as a result of HKUST research activity”.
The Technology Transfer Centre’s overall mission is to strengthen Hong Kong’s industrial base, Dr. White-Hunt says, adding, ” Hong Kong’s current wealth is in trade and finance. In order for it to maintain its pre- eminence, Hong Kong must establish a third leg -- technology-based industry. The aim of TTC is to do everything it can to develop new technology-based industries here in Hong Kong.”
Dr. White-Hunt is married and has six boys, four of whom will join him in Hong Kong. The oldest two are at university in the UK.
