HKUST Displays Research
Projects at Hi-Tech Exhibition
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology willparticipate in the "Technology for Tomorrow" exhibition to be held at City University of Hong Kong from 28 June - 4 July 1997.
Six HKUST faculty members will display their research at this official function celebrating the reunification of Hong Kong with China. Together with 150 prominent scientists and engineers from the Chinese Mainland, they aim to promote wider knowledge and public awareness of the development and application of hi-tech on the Chinese Mainland and Hong Kong.
The HKUST projects on display are:
Dr Wing-yim Tam (Department of Physics) will introduce a new generation of smart fluids with the potential to revolutionize suspension systems for cars and robots.
Dr Robert Ko (Department of Biochemistry) will present his
newly-discovered antioxidant (DNA) which promises to combat the effects of human ageing and protect against heart and liver disease.
Dr Yuk-shan Wong (Research Centre) has devised an inexpensive, efficient and environmental friendly biological system for purifying industrial wastewater.
Professor Hoi-sing Kwok (Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering) is undertaking research and development activities to improve the liquid crystal displays made and used by local
manufacturers.
Dr Kar-yan Tam (Department of Information and Systems
Management) will introduce internet shopping technology which is the emerging trend in the retail field.
Dr Ting-chuen Pong (Department of Computer Science) has
developed machine vision technology to improve the competitiveness of local manufacturing industry.
The University will also have two booths providing general materials on research and development at HKUST.
