HKUST Receives HK$1.6 Million from Tektronix Inc.
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) has received a gift of electronic test and measurement equipment valued at HK$I .6 million from Tektronix Hong Kong Ltd, a subsidiary of Tektronix, Inc. of Beaverton, Oregon. The gift is a package deal of donated and loaned instruments which include sophisticated oscilloscopes and accessones. The instruments are being used for teaching and research in the University’s Department of Electrical and
Electronic Engineering.
Oscilloscopes record electronic wave forms on screens. The donated 100 MHz digital and analog oscilloscopes can record signals that change 100 million times per second. Moreover, the equipment is a new generation which can interface with personal computers, enabling computer operators to control and monitor the appearance of the wave forms. All first-year Engineering as well as Physics students use the equipment in the Engineering Core Courses; later, second-year students will use it in electronics courses and final-year students will use it for projects.
Tektronix is a leading manufacturer of electronics products and systems in the areas of test and measurement, computer graphics and television systems. Duane Bowans, manager of Tektronix’ Americas-
Pacific sales group, says, “Tektronix considers it a great honour to have this opportunity to provide our state-of-the-art equipment and software to HKUST. The donation continues Tektronix’ tradition of commitment to the field of education and to the future of Hong Kong and the Asia-
Pacific region.”
