1. What matters most today is that the British empire transformed the world. What it has now become is in considerable part the consequence of three hundred years of British overseas expansion. The present day demography, economy and
political life of North America and much of Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Pacific owes much to former British rule and influence.
2. Soft power refers to when a country tries to obtain desired outcomes in world politics indirectly. . . . It is a form of power that is based on the capacity to influence the international agenda in a way that shapes others’ preferences (agenda-setting) and that co-opts others rather than coerces them.
3. Extreme sports are nontraditional sports and activities that require participants to combine athletic skill with pronounced risk. Most extreme sports are not true competitive sports because the main challenge is not imposed by another athlete or opposing team, but by the inherent difficulty of the activity. Extreme sports allow and encourage individual creativity in the innovation of new maneuvers and in the stylish execution of existing techniques.
4. 詩歌雖然是詩人個人心靈的發抒，卻也是民族文化的表徵。中國古典詩反映 的不僅是中國古典詩人的性靈而已，它也反映了中國的古典文化。這點可以 從詩的形式與內容兩方面，同時得到印證。

The MOE promotes 12-year Compulsory Education, which extends compulsory education from 9 to 12 years. Along with this, students in Taiwan are provided with as many learning opportunities as possible. Elementary school low achievers in the math, Mandarin, and English subjects are given opportunities for remedial
instruction at school. Discuss your opinion about this policy of remedial instruction.
