PERFORMANCE EVALUATION OF E-LEARNING COURSES FOR CONSTRUCTION ENGINEERING EDUCATION

ABSTRACT

With the advent of emerging information technologies (IT’s), distance education has been widely adopted in colleges and universities. In the past few years, the Ministry of Education has supported many private and public schools in promoting their education facilities and improving their teaching quality. This paper presents the result of evaluation for one of the aforementioned efforts, which focuses on the subject of construction engineering. In the study, 10 e-courses were selected for experimenting and evaluation. Questionnaire surveys were conducted to analyze the applica- bility and effectiveness of the web-based distance education. It was found that e-Learning is able to supplement the formal ‘classroom’ education in the following aspects: it provides more flexible time, puts classrooms everywhere, gives 24 hours a day of education, and places no limitation on faculty members. It is concluded that e-Learning is worthwhile promoting for continuing education or to serve as a supplementary tool for the formal education system.
