國立臺北教育大學 102 學年度碩士班招生入學考試

兒童英語教育學系英語教育碩士班 英語教學 科試題

I. Answer the following questions in English.(每小題 20 分,共 80 分)

1. In recent years, grammar teaching has swung away from grammar-translation methods through communicative methods and to current ideas about ‘focusing on form.’ Explain how each of these three language teaching methods takes a different view of grammar learning process.

2. The introduction of the computer into the classroom has been claimed to enhance the practice of teaching and learning of English. Discuss which

aspect(s) of second language acquisition (SLA) can be fostered by the ability of the computer. Why?

3. “Waitress: Hi, what would you like to drink today?

Uncle Joe: Iced tea, please.

Waitress: Here’s your iced tea. Are you ready to order?

Uncle Joe: Yes. Chicken Alfredo.

Waitress: Soup or salad?

Uncle Joe: Yes. Super salad.

Waitress: Would you like “soup” OR “salad”?

Uncle Joe: Oh. Salad. Salad. Ha ha ha”

Uncle Joe, visiting California, had mistakenly ordered super salad, which was not on the menu, because of his false assumption about the intended meaning of the waitress offering a big portion of salad named: “SUPER salad.” Besides accent and speech rate, what might also be the reason why he made such a false assumption? In other words, what theory, or the lack thereof, can be used to explain such a misunderstanding? As an EFL teacher, what listening and speaking activities would you engage students in when it comes to restaurant scenarios?

4. One of the most important key to creating an interactive classroom on the part of the teacher involves the use of questioning strategies. Assuming that you are teaching “The Three Little Pigs” to 5th graders, when you read the book the second time, you plan to engage students by casting a variety of questions. The questions range from display questions to highly referential questions. Define what display questions and referential questions are and provide two examples for each type of questions. Explain whether you should have a different

proportion of display and referential questions. Please justify your response by considering your students’ proficiency level and your goal of engaging students in interactive storytelling.
