HKUST Introduces Potential Students to Modern Bioloay
More than 800 selected Form 7 students will obtain first hand information about the study of modern biology when they attend a briefing session organized by the Department of Biology at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology on Saturday, 21 May 1994.
The potential students will meet with faculty members as well as current students. They will also have an opportunity to visit the teaching and research laboratories and facilities.
With its first class of 42 undergraduates graduating this summer, the faculty of the Biology Department are ready to train a new generation of modern biologists to meet the needs of Hong Kong and its region.
“Our department is still young but very competent. It has a strong foundation and great potential. In Hong Kong and South East Asia, our department represents a new front,” says Professor Madeline Wu, Head of HKUST’s Biology Department.
Scientists in the Biology Department specialize in different areas such as plant biology, marine biology, neurobiology, cell biology and cancer biology. This diversity .generates an immense potential for the advances in health care, agriculture, aquaculture and environmental protection.
Biology students at HKUST are not only exposed to the traditional biological training as in other tertiary institutes in Hong Kong, but also have the opportunity to participate in cutting edge research projects of modern biology.
