HKUST AND ZHEJIANG UNIVERSITY
SIGN COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH AGREEMENT
The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) yesterday (29 July 1999) signed a collaborative research agreement with Zhejiang University to conduct research and development on silicon micro-display technology.
The signing ceremony was held at HKUST. The delegation from Zhejiang University was led by their Chancellor, Mr Zhang Junsheng.
Liquid crystal display is an important aspect of modern flat panel display technology, and has extensive applications in our modern, information-based society. It also has excellent market potentials.
To promote the innovation and development of advanced information display and digital display technologies, the two universities have decided to jointly explore new display technologies based on silicon microdisplay units, and to develop new knowledge and systems.
Under the collaborative agreement, HKUST will be responsible for research related to liquid crystal, microchips, active addressing and driving technologies, while Zhejiang University will conduct studies on the realization of high efficiency, compact optical systems, as well as on integrated systems.
The first collaborative research project for the two universities will focus on high resolution projection TV systems.
