I. Course Objectives:

The purpose of this course is to help students of higher intermediate level to

express themselves in English. The first semester focuses on structured reading on thematic material; covering reading strategies, information search, vocabulary

building, which will be applied in everyday conversation and class discussion. There are also outside readings for students to read and write review on.

本課程旨在促進同學們英語文閱讀及表達的能力; 以生活、時事等主題的閱讀為學習重點,

閱讀技巧學習及英文網路資訊查詢,增進字彙為輔。加強英語文應用,適當地用文字或口說 方式,表達所思所想。另有課外讀物之課後閱讀及心得寫作。

II. Course Activities:

1. 主題討論, 及生活趣味話題討論。

2. 閱讀技巧學習: 讀上下文猜字義, 找主題句, 作重點摘要, 作大綱。

3. 看電影寫心得或口頭報告及讀文章作口頭報告。(80-100 words spoken w/o script)

4. 搜尋網路資訊增進字彙。

5. 會話及口說活動。

6. 語文遊戲及歌曲。

7. 小考。

III. Course Requirements

1. 出缺席: 照顧自己的健康是你的本份。寫請假單仍列為缺席。全學期只缺席一次視同病假 不扣分,但逢考試,成績以零分計,併入平均。第二次缺席(含病、事假)扣總分 5 分。缺 席(含病、事假) 3 次,扣考期末考。婚喪請假,不扣分,不算缺席;以訃聞或喜帖上有你

的名字為憑,方可請假,家長寫信不准假。隨時點名或收作業點名。每節遲到 10 分鐘以

上,扣總分 1 分;遲到 30 分鐘以上,扣總分 2 分。未做準備、 未做作業、遲到、早退、上 課時趴著睡覺、私下講話、用個人器材聽音樂、打手機、上網等,每次扣總平均 2 分。以上 的規定對一位按時上課、注意聽講、準備功課的同學,是不特別具有壓力的。會被當的同 學大多因缺席及遲到太多。

2. 課前準備: 口說作業不可看稿、閱讀指定課文、及書寫課本內習題。

3. 小考、平時口頭及書面報告、上課習作: 30 % 4. 期中考: 30%

5. 期末考: 40%

6. Bonus points (最高 5 分): 上課回答指定內容之問題 (每次 o.5 分) English Corner (每次 1 分)
