A Study on Students' Learning Satisfaction of Free Software in Elementary Schools 范偉培、包冬意

ABSTRACT
Free software is increasingly applied in education environment.This research takes the primaryschools im Chang-hua Country as objects.The independent variable concerns students' backgrouds,including sex,grader,possession of the computer,scale of school.The dependent variable deals with students' learning satisfaction,including teaching methods,curriculum, software interface,school environment,interpersonal relationship,and,learning achievement. The writer of OpenOffice.org was taken as a surrogate of free software.The purposes of this research are:(1)to analyze factors about students' learning satisfaction with free software in primary schools.(2)to understand situations about students' learning satisfaction with respect to their backgrounds and,and(4) to provide some suggestions regarding students' learning satisfaction to teachers and the educational authorities. The results are as follows:The pupils in Chang-hua Country were contented with the using of free software.The average scores of all factors in descending order were from learningenvironment,to learning achievement,to teaching methods,to free software,to peer's relationship,and finally to curriculum.There was an obvious diversity resulted from graders and the scale of a school to learning contentment;while there was no obvious diversity regarding others.The fifth graders reflected the most learning contentment,and the scool with 12 classes also reflected the most obvious learning contentment. According to this research,there are several suggestions as below：to promote the teaching of free software,to update the computer equipment duly,and toencourage the using of free software.It also suggested that teacher's cultivator institute can deliver the software knowledge,heighten the lesson plan,and enhance programming ability.It would be a benefit that teachers make some appropriate adjustment and improvement among lessons, teaching and studying environment.
