The Hong Kong Palace Museum is a collaborative project between the West Kowloon Cultural District Authority and the Palace Museum.

The Hong Kong Palace Museum aspires to become one of the world’s leading cultural institutions committed to the study and appreciation of Chinese art and culture, while advancing dialogue among world civilisations through international partnerships.

Embracing new curatorial approaches, the Museum will offer a Hong Kong perspective and a global vision, building strategic worldwide partnerships and presenting the finest objects from the Palace Museum and other important cultural institutions around the world. Positioning Hong Kong as a hub for art and cultural exchanges between China and the rest of the world.

As a world-class institution, the Museum is, at heart, a cultural resource that belongs to the community of Hong Kong. And as a dynamic platform, it will inspire community engagement, foster dialogue and partnerships, and promote creativity and interdisciplinary collaboration.

(6)

Educational Strategies

The Museum aims to create rich learning experiences and learning environment, with its learning and engagement programmes based on theoretical and pedagogical frameworks.

Active Learning

Learning is a process in which learners actively construct meanings using sensory experience. In the museum, visitors can broaden their perspectives and engage in active learning. We offer opportunities for visitors to interpret and participate through a variety of experiential and open learning activities.

6

Learning and Engagement Programme

(7)

Object-based Learning

Object-based learning enables learners to observe an object closely and to discover its role and importance in our world through observation and inquiry. It can also spark discussion and enable visitors to connect with their own experiences. To support object-based learning, we organise hands-on and inquiry-based learning activities such as object handling courses and conservation workshops.

Experiential Learning

Museums are essentially experiential places. Our learning programmes seek to connect objects, scholarly research and curation with visitors, fostering an immersive and exploratory environment for discovery, reflection, and learning.

7

Learning and Engagement Programme

(8)

甲) 展覽或藏品相關的材料;

乙) 有關中國藝術、文化與歷史並且易懂可靠的基本資訊;

丙) 跟學校課程相關的材料;

Content Strategy

(a) Exhibition or collection-related resources;

(b) Accessible knowledge about Chinese arts, culture and history;

(c) School curriculum-related resources;

(d) Resources developed for special programmes, e.g. conservation

While providing basic info, we also seek to create creative and relevant contents, with a focus on offering a new perspective on Chinese art and culture, including the connection between Chinese art and culture and Hong Kong today, between the past and the present, and the dialogue between China and world civilisations.

Learning and Engagement Programme

(9)

Enhance students to become effective life-long learners

Implement life-wide learning in the school curriculum in order to help students achieve whole-person development

(10)

Extend

Some learning opportunities linked with different KLAs, such as visits to museums and field trips, can deepen students’ understanding of a certain learning area in terms of knowledge, skills and attitudes.

Enrich

There are other relevant learning experiences which are outside the KLAs, such as co-curricular activities, interest classes and community services held by schools. These experiences facilitate students’ exploration of their multi-potentiality and also broaden their horizons.

促進 Facilitate

Most of the life-wide learning activities develop students’ life skills and study skills, which in turn facilitate their classroom learning. Other life-wide learning activities, such as leadership training camps and team spirit building courses, are specially designed to develop students’ generic skills and facilitate their whole-person development.
