Background

Due to the ripe old age of the population structure and extension of the average life and transformation of disease form, the number of disablement has increased intensively and correspondingly the increasing requirement of care. Many domestic and researches point out that the job satisfaction positively improve the caring quality and the result of caring. The purpose of this research is to study the influence factors of health care aides job satisfaction and formulators of caring service policy and enterprise owner can

understand the work satisfaction condition of these health care aides and this can serve as a reference for human resource management and enhancement of caring quality.

Research method

This research adopts cross-sectional investigation research method and by sampling of purposive method, research is conducted on legally established hospitals, nursing homes, elderly caring institutions, retired servicemen home and live in service organization etc. with health care aides who possess qualified training certificate and agree to participate in this research in central Taiwan. By means of questionnaire research, 414 questionnaires were issued and 383 questioners were returned and the recovery rate of 92.51% and number of effective questionnaire is 364.

This research tool is based on document to study and design the structural questionnaire that is divided into seven major parts including personal basic information, moral integrity characteristic, work capability, work characteristics, organization culture, leadership form and work satisfaction level. Liker 4 points scoring method is adopted and the returned and effective questionnaires are being categorized based on information, numbered, arranged, marked, tabled and then SPSS10.0 statistical software is utilized to conduct data processing and statistical analysis.

Research result

In the effective samples of this research, there are 39 males (10.7%) and 325 females (89.3%) and for age level, age between 41~50 occupies the most with 173 persons occupying 47.5% followed by 51~60 years old with 96 persons occupying 26.4%. For marriage condition, most of them are married and for

unmarried, there are only 27 persons occupying 7.4%. For educational level, middle school level occupies the most with 135 persons (37.1%) followed by high school with 118 persons (32.4%). For number of years of service of these health care aides, 1-5 years occupy the most with 173 persons (47.5%) followed by 6~10 years with 106 persons (29.1%). The average monthly salary that exceeds $19,999 occupies 21.4%

and 73.8% is more than $20,000.

After statistical analysis on the research date, it shows that the highest work satisfaction level of health care aides in different work unit is one on one patient accompanying person in the hospital followed by live in home caring service person. The lowest is caring organization. The overall work satisfaction level of the health care aides is between 『dissatisfied』 and 『satisfied』 and tends towards 『satisfied』that ( the average value is 2.93). The highest score in respect of the five aspects of work satisfaction level is 『work partner』 followed by 『superior』, 『work itself』, 『promotion』and 『salary』. For the individual case of caring, the self consciousness on the happy life level, work capability, work diversity, work completeness and supportive organization culture have significant effect on the work satisfaction level.

The researcher suggest to formulators of caring service policy to actively study on the job retention measures of the health care aides and to conduct on-the-job education emphasizing both practical work and academic theory so as to enhance its effectiveness and to reach an outstanding work performance.

The work content design shall be enhanced so as to increase the nature of challenge. During handing of work by the superior it should be complete instead of discontinuous and let them to decide on their work progress and to have the opportunity to act. When employee can enhance their work performance, reward should be given so that they can feel that caring service is a meaningful job and this can raise the work satisfaction level of the health care aides.
