VISITOR ARRIVALS

Attributable to the Chinese New Year holidays that took place in January 2006, number of visitor arrivals totalled 1,661,393, which represented a year-on-year increase of 18.5%. Visitors from Mainland China and Hong Kong increased 12.4% and 40.3% respectively compared with January 2005; however, visitors from Taiwan, China dropped 10.8%. Besides, same-day visitors accounted for 52.0% of the total arrivals, at 863,719.

In January, 54.2% of the arrivals from Mainland China travelled to Macao under the Individual Visit Scheme, at 502,423.

Compared with the same month of 2005, visitor arrivals by sea increased 28.7% to 611,640, with 576,738 of them arrived at the Outer Harbour, an increase of 25.1%. Arrivals by land were 971,957, up 14.0%; visitors entered Macao through the Border Gate increased 23.3%.

Arrivals by air rose 5.7% to 77,796 and 76,877 of them arrived at the Macao International Airport.
