Visitor arrivals totalled 3,053,690, up by 8.5% year-on-year. Overnight visitors and same-day visitors increased by 5.5% and 12.2% respectively. In 2017, total visitor arrivals rose by 5.4% year-on-year to 32,610,506, and the average length of stay of visitors remained stable as in 2016, at 1.2 days.

Visitors from Mainland China increased by 15.8% year-on-year, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rising by 15.7% to 983,933;

however, visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan dropped by 5.4% and 6.4% respectively. For the whole year of 2017, visitors from Mainland China went up by 8.5% year-on-year and those from the Republic of Korea surged by 32.0%, while visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan decreased. Moreover, visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom registered decline.

Visitor arrivals by air (+15.1%), by land (+12.9%) and by sea (+0.8%) recorded year-on-year growth in December 2017. For the whole year of 2017, visitor arrivals by air, by land and by sea also increased by 13.7%, 4.9% and 4.3% respectively year-on-year.
