VISITOR ARRIVALS

Visitor arrivals totalled 2,495,196, down by 5.6% year-on-year. Same-day visitors decreased by 13.2% to 1,263,236 while overnight visitors rose by 3.6% to 1,231,960. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.2 days, up by 0.1 day year-on-year. In the first two months of 2017, visitor arrivals totalled 5,371,242, up by 5.5% year-on-year.

Visitors from Mainland China decreased by 7.5% year-on-year, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (889,353) falling by 11.9%. Visitors from Hong Kong dropped by 8.6% while those from the Republic of Korea and Taiwan went up by 31.3% and 0.6% respectively. Visitors from Australia increased year-on-year whereas those from the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom decreased.

Visitor arrivals by land and by air decreased by 9.0% and 3.4% respectively year-on-year while those by sea edged up by 0.4%.
