Overview

This course is designed for you to learn 1) how to read and analyze a variety of current events and popular contemporary topics; 2) how to acquaint yourself with the world of news through different media;3) how to polish your English skills as an a journalism major. It aims to help you increase your competitive edge as a Journalism major.

Class sessions will involve a combination of lectures, class discussions of reading, and reports.

Your before-class preparation, in-class participation, and REGULAR AFTER-CLASS READING AND LISTENING PRACTICES are all essential for your own advancement.

Regular English News Reading / Listening / Watching // and Note Taking You are strongly recommended to read English news, and watch English TV news regularly, better on a daily basis. Take notes from news reading, listening, and watching.

Format for Written Work All assignments must be typed, double- spaced, single-sided, in the form of Word document, and with generous margins on A4-size pages.

Code of Conduct

1. TURN OFF your phones and text messengers before entering the classroom.

2. NO CHATTING in class. (Cell phone use and chatting affect your final grade. ) 3. Absence without valid reason affects your final grade. You are fully responsible for

getting the assignments and handouts you may have missed, and for keeping up with the assignment/exam schedule.

4. Students who miss tests, class presentations, written reports, midterm and final exam without valid reason will be considered failed.

5. No late papers are accepted.
