There is more to Ecuador than the Galapagos Islands and the capital city, Quito. Here are four more destinations that travelers should not miss.

In eastern Ecuador, the Cuyabeno Reserve covers 1.5 million acres of hills and valleys with vast forests fed by rivers that flow into the mighty Amazon. Here, visitors find an amazing variety of plants and animals.

Besides squirrel and spider monkeys, there are jaguars, tapirs, and huge flocks of parrots. Instead of hotels, the area has lodges that offer comfortable rooms, fine dining and boat trips to see amazing creatures along the riverbanks.

In the 15th century, the Inca people of South America extended their empire into southern Ecuador.

There, they built a city called Ingaprica. The Inca and their empire disappeared long ago, but in Ingapirca, Incan ruins still mark the places where their buildings once stood. The largest is the Temple of the Sun, which once overlooked the surrounding countryside. A visit to Ingapirca is a great way to learn about the Inca as well as the other peoples who lived in this region long ago.

(6)

In the mountains of central Ecuador lies Baños de Agua Santa. Though small, this city offers much to visitors. In addition to beautiful scenery, there are fun activities like mountain biking and float trips down the Rio Pastaza River. The town also boasts delicious local food and interesting markets with traditional crafts. Because Baños de Agua Santa is on the side of an active volcano, it has hot spring pools. Locals and visitors alike enjoy relaxing in them at the end of a fun-filled day.

The most famous of Ecuador’s beaches is Los Frailes beach, which is located in Machiliia National Park.

From the nearby town Puerto Lopez, many tourists take three-wheeled taxi called tuk tuks to the park entrance. Those who don’t can catch a bus in the town instead. The ride is followed by a two-hour hike that passes a beautiful black sand beach and ends at Los Frailes. The surrounding scenery features cliffs that line the coast and wonderful views of the ocean.

1. According to the article, what are people paying a visit to the Cuyabeno Reserve mainly for?

(A) The remains of a lost civilization. (B) Exploring the natural wonders.

(C) Exclusive luxurious accommodations. (D) Adrenaline-rush activities.
