The age-old question “What do you want to be when you grow up?” is receiving a surprising new answer from young people. A recent survey asked 16 to 25-year-old British participants about their preferred careers and found that the most favored job was vlogger, or video blogger. Vloggers make videos on various topics, ranging from daily routines to makeup tutorials and funny pranks about everyday life.

The fascination with this occupation is not limited to the UK; however, it’s growing all over the world.

One of the appeals of being a vlogger is that your shot at stardom includes you simply being yourself. Successful vloggers are relatable;

that’s what sets them apart from the poised and polished celebrities on TV. What’s more, this job allows people to be their own boss without a degree or even work experience.

Even though, the role also includes a lot of pressure. Vloggers have to constantly come up with the next best idea to keep their fans entertained. Moreover, if they aren’t feeling well or experience technical difficulties, their videos suffer. It could take only a few seconds of a dull video to make people think a YouTube channel is not worth their time. Besides, it can take up to a year to establish a social media presence, and that’s if you’re successful at all.

If you want to become a vlogger, investing in quality camera equipment, a lighting kit, and video editing software is crucial. After all, poor audio and lousy video quality are two things sure to make people quickly lose interest. It’s also important to determine your personal brand. Decide what you want your YouTube channel to focus on, and choose what you want the tone of your videos to be like. Once you get started, remember to be persistent and have patience as you improve.

Imagine getting constant mean messages on Facebook at all time, no matter day or night. Or think of what it would be like if someone hacked into your cellphone, and suddenly all of your pictures were out there for everyone to see, to mock, and to gossip about. This is cyberbullying, a generally recent trend. It’s defined as using information technology to repeatedly and intentionally harm or harass other people. Back in the day, bullying was confined to physical areas such as schools or playgrounds, places where you had personal, face-to-face contact with other people. With cyberbullying, anyone around the world can post things about you on the Internet. While it may not seem as physical as traditional bullying, it can also have tragic consequences.

One example is the case of Ryan Halligan. Ryan had poor speech, language, and motor skill development early on in life, which led to his need for special education services. This made him a regular target of one particular bully at school. Things seemed to get better in February, 2003, when a fight between Ryan and his bully not only ended the problems at school, but also seemingly led to them striking up a friendship. Due to this, Ryan eventually told his “friend” an embarrassing personal story, and the bully used it to start a nasty rumor about Ryan. The taunting got worse, and Ryan tried to seek comfort from a girl he met through an online messenger. Unfortunately, that girl was actually just another bully looking for more embarrassing stories.

When Ryan found out, he hanged himself in the family bathroom. He was 13 years old.

My name is Toby, and I’m a potato. People know me by a lot of different names; I get called spud, tater, earth apple, and even Solanum tuberosum by fan cy folks with to o much education. I consider myself pretty common and humble, but my family and I have seen a lot. Our story begins thousands of years ago, and since then, we’ve changed the world.

It all started in the Andes Mountains in ancient Peru. It’s estimated that people there have been growing my ancestors for around 10,000 years. There’s no doubt that they were a major staple for the Inca Empire. Potatoes are pretty tough, and we can grow in fairly chilly areas, such as the Andes, which meant people could rely on my forebears as food when the maize crop failed. This helped the Inca Empire grow, but we potatoes were just getting started.

When the Spanish showed up in the 16t h century, they liked the look of my family, so they brought them back to Europe. At first, the Europeans didn’t want to consume them at all. This makes sense, since our leaves are toxic, as is our skin if it’s exposed to light. They used my relatives to decorate their gardens instead, but it wasn’t long before they recognized their virtues as a food.

Let me just take a moment to explain out nutritional value.

Potatoes contain plenty of Vitamin C and Vitamin B6, though some of this disappears when we’re cooked. There’s not a lot of protein in us, but there’s almost no fat, and we’re great at satisfying hunger. What makes us so appealing as a food crop is that we’re relatively easy to grow and can adapt well to a variety of climates. Once the European realized this, my predecessors were ready for the big time.

37. What is this article mainly about?

(A) To see the different perspective of potatoes.

(B) How to plant potatoes well.

(A) They helped people become resistant to numerous diseases.

(B) When planted alongside grain crops, they made grains stronger.

(C) They were a stable food source, allowing populations to grow.

(D) They were used as a kind of fuel during the Industrial Revolution.
