Invitation to schools to submit funding applications in the 2022/23 school year and participate in the solution days

Purpose

The purpose of this circular memorandum is to invite publicly-funded primary schools to submit applications for funding under the “Knowing More About IT” Programme in the 2022/23 school year and enrol for the three “Knowing More About IT” Solution Days to be held during the period from October 2022 to February 2023.

Details

2. The three-year “Knowing More About IT” Programme was launched since the 2021/22 school year. The programme aims to provide a funding of up to $400,000 to all publicly- funded primary schools (Government, Aided (including Special Schools) and Direct Subsidy Scheme schools) in Hong Kong, in order to enhance primary school students’ interest and relevant knowledge in IT through extra-curricular activities (ECAs), thereby better preparing themselves for integration into the knowledge-based economy and the digital society in the future. As of August 2022, more than 200 schools submitted applications for the programme. Schools can submit funding applications in the 2022/23 school year through the following link (https://www.it-lab.gov.hk/en/application_know-it.php). 3. In order to introduce a wider variety of IT related ECAs solutions to the principals and teachers, the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) will organise three solution days in collaboration with different organisations during the period from October 2022 to February 2023. Schools are welcome to enrol and join. For details of the solution days, please refer to the Appendix.

“Knowing More About IT” Programme

Invitation to Submit Application in the 2022/23 School Year and Participate in the Solution Days

Purpose & Details

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) launched a three- year “Knowing More About IT” Programme since the 2021/22 school year. The programme aims to stimulate primary school students’ interest in IT and strengthen their basic knowledge in IT applications through extra-curricular activities (ECAs), thereby enhancing their enthusiasm towards pursuing the study of STEM-related subjects and better preparing themselves for integration into the digital society. Each publicly-funded primary school can apply for a funding of up to $400,000 from OGCIO for three school years from 2021/22 to 2023/24 to organise IT-related ECAs, and procure IT equipment or professional services required for the ECAs. OGCIO cordially invites all publicly-funded primary schools to join and submit funding applications for the “Knowing More About IT” Programme in the 2022/23 school year.

2. Schools may visit our programme website (https://www.it-lab.gov.hk/en/index.php) for more information about the programme and submit online application. Application guidelines, FAQ, reference list of IT equipment, sample IT activities, approved applications, presentation materials of sharing sessions, etc. are available on our website for reference.

Schools may also submit a draft application to our One-stop Support Centre of the “Knowing More About IT” Programme of OGCIO in advance, we will then provide advice in respect of the information stated in the application.

3. In view of the overwhelming responses of the previous three solution days in June and July 2022, OGCIO will organise the solution days again during the period from October

2022 to February 2023 for those schools which have not submitted application to organise activities. Schools interested in submitting the application are welcome to enrol. Details of the solution days are as follows:

4. To better understand the needs of schools and opinions on the “Knowing More About IT” Programme, we appeal to those schools which have not submitted the application to complete the questionnaire via (https://www.it-lab.gov.hk/knowit_qs_20220901.php) by 30 September 2022. All information provided will be kept strictly confidential. Your feedback will definitely help us provide better support in the programme implementation.

5. Besides, OGCIO also sponsored the Hong Kong Wireless Technology Industry

Association to organise an “Innovation and Technology Festival for Primary School Students”, which provides free hands-on workshops for teachers and school visits with student workshops for schools.
