In America, many people use snowmobiles to travel during the winter. These vehicles are not only

convenient, but also fun to drive. Their use in America’s national parks, however, is hotly debated. And nowhere is this debate fiercer than in Yellowstone National Park.

Yellowstone National Park is among America’s favorite parks. Before the 1960s, Yellowstone attracted many people during the summer but few in the winter, when freezing temperatures and deep snow kept visitors

away. Starting in the winter of 1963, however, people began to visit the park on snowmobiles. For those people, snowmobiles offered a fun way to see the park when it was snowy. Snowmobiles were also convenient for park employees who had work to do between November and March. As a result, the number of people on snowmobiles increased year by year. In 1992, about 90,000 visitors rode snowmobiles through the park.

Other people, however, were opposed to snowmobiles in Yellowstone National Park. According to their view, snowmobiles were noisy machines that disturbed the park’s wild animals and polluted the air. Gradually, park officials came to share this view.

Since 2000, park officials have limited snowmobiles use in the park. Currently, only 318 snowmobiles are allowed to enter the park each winter day. Speed limits are also posted, and snowmobiles are not allowed in the park at night. People against snowmobiles would like to ban their use in the park altogether. (A) The harm that they cause to the environment. (B) The serious traffic jams that they produce.

(C) The danger that they pose to young children. (D) The rude behavior that drivers exhibit.

(A) They will prohibit the use of snowmobiles completely.

(B) They will allow only the park employees to use snowmobiles during the winter time.

(C) They will allow visitors to use snowmobiles without any limit in winter.

There are dress pants for formal occasions, jeans and khakis for casual affairs, and shorts for when it’s hot.

And all these types of pants come in a variety of shapes and styles. But with so many to choose from, how do we know which to wear?

People with long, thin legs can slip into whatever they prefer. For everyone else, there are some common guidelines to follow.

Short-legged people should choose skinny- or narrow-cut pants to make their legs appear longer and

thinner. Those with average-sized legs can use narrow-cut pants to create thin leg lines. But if your legs are bigger than average, you may try palazzo-style pants. Colorful, patterned pants can make your legs look larger, so avoid them.

Ok, now that you’ve got the right pant cut, it’s time for the hard part---creating an outfit. Today’s trends often blend formal with casual styles. Jeans are always flexible and provide many fashion options. Paired with a suit jacket, they offer a relaxed and stylish look. You can be more or less formal depending on the type of shoes you choose.

Another recent fashion trend is leggings. With leggings, girls can simply wear a long T-shirt or short dress to make them look slimmer. They can also add a skirt or dress over their pants. This style provides more layers, textures, and colors.

Whether you’re going to a wedding, heading for the beach, or just walking in the city, your pants say a lot about who you are. So get creative and develop your own unique fashion taste.

44. What type of pants does the writer advise people with thick legs to wear?

(A) Leggings. (B) Colorful, patterned pants.

(C) Narrow-cut pants. (D) Palazzo-style pants.

45. According to the article, which outfit matches today’s fashion trends?

(4)

(A) Pairing jeans with a casual top. (B) Pairing a dress with high heels.

(C) Pairing jeans with a suit jacket. (D) Pairing leggings with a long dress.

46. According to the passage, which statement is FALSE?

(A) People with short legs should not wear loose or baggy pants.

(B) Jeans are suitable only for casual occasions.

(C) Wearing leggings can make one’s legs look thinner.

(D) Wearing a skirt over pants is fashionable now.

47. Who is the writer most likely to be?

(A) A fashion expert. (B) A health official.

(C) A hairdresser. (D) A dressmaker.
