In this textbook(Read to succeed 3), there are 16 subjects-based units(based on the syllabus, 8 units of them will be taught during the two semesters). All of the topics are original and up-to-date, varied and unique themes. Besides offering interesting reading sections, strategies for reading comprehension shows learners how to get the most out of what they are reading in terms of gaining a basic understanding and coming away with meaning and insight. To achieve these goals, specific reading skills are introduced and instructed in each units. In addition, this book also helps learners to build a solid vocabulary base, keying on synonym and antonym as well as prefix and suffix concepts.
Review and interactive discussion of the topics ensure that learners come away with a better, fuller appreciation of what they have read. Furthermore, students are required to finish the GEPT and the TOEIC on-line tests on assigned due dates and students are also required to involve in the project presentation, discussions and other activities during the class time.
The basic objectives and the advanced objectives are outlined as follows:
Basic Objectives:
1. To help learners build up their English language ability and interest across all language skills; however, there is an emphasis on the development of reading ability and the initiation of exploration of foreign cultures.
2. To facilitate learners’ language learning skills and strategies, especially in reading for comprehending academic texts, which include identifying main ideas and supporting details, making connections, drawing inferences, finding similarities and differences, and analyzing text organization.
3. To develop or maintain learners’ interest and motivation in reading and learning English as a foreign language.
4. To help learners to develop good reading habits and become self-directed readers and language learners.

本課程為一整合性的學術技巧訓練，透過進階的課程培養並整合語言的四種技巧，

等再加以運用循環，以促使學者更能將英文的基本能力運用自如。。

Course Objectives and Description
This course aims to help students improve reading skills, build vocabulary, and enhance grammar understanding. Training students’ team work and communication skills is also an important goal in this course. Each Unit will be broken into two classes. The first class will cover the target vocabulary, reading, and grammar focus. The second class will include grammar practice and students’ presentation of the exercise answers.
Finally the unit is closed with a writing assignment and a unit test to enhance unit goal achievement.
Class Rules
