Please summarize the entire research, teaching, or science and technology R&D and management work process (To be completed by the employee)

1. Summary

In 2013, I visited NCKU for a total of three months to extend my research and teaching collaboration with the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. Together with Dr Yee-Shin Lin and colleagues, we were able to produce several manuscripts, give presentations at international symposia and to complete the training programs of several graduate students. I also made major contributions to teaching at NCKU, with numerous lectures in courses given by the Department of Microbiology & Immunology. I regularly attend graduate student seminars and provide advice and suggestions for improved presentations. Moreover, I interact closely with faculty colleagues and students with whom I provide extensive contributions to editing of manuscripts and enhancing English writing and speaking skills.

2, Time period of attendance at NCKU April 6 - 19 2013

June 21 - July 22 2013 Nov 12 - Dec 30 2013 3. Research

By joining forces with Dr Yee-Shin Lin and colleagues we have enhanced both our research programs and have built a strong international collaboration which capitalizes on our individual strengths. Our main area of research, dengue virus pathogenesis, has been considerably advanced by the publication of several manuscripts, international conference presentations and graduate student co-supervision. Within the scope of the newly established Center for Infectious Disease and Signal Transduction, I also attend frequent focus-group meetings (eg. dengue, group A Streptococcus) and participate in critical evaluation, idea exchange and suggestions. Specific collaborative highlights achieved this past year include the following:

4. Teaching and student mentoring

I have been honored to contribute to several graduate-level courses in Microbiology & Immunology at NCKU. These are high-profile, "showcase" courses in the Department. Students are taught in English and respond well to the intellectual and linguistic challenges. In addition, my regular attendance at graduate student presentations and research meetings has provided great opportunities for advising on research projects and improving English language skills among the graduate students.
