VISITOR ARRIVALS
In May 2002, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 943,352 , equivalent to an increase of 14.7% over May 2001.
Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (42.1%), Mainland China (37.8%) and Taiwan (14.4%). Same-day visitors reached 387,954 (41.1% of the total arrivals).
In the first five months of 2002, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 4,614,159, up 9.7% over the same period of 2001. Furthermore, same-day visitors reached 1,936,991, which shared 42.0% of the total visitor arrivals.
Compared with the first five months of 2001, the cumulative number of arrivals by sea went up 8.3%, to 2,364,805.
Among these visitors, 2,307,442 arrived at the Outer Harbour, a growth of 8.9%. Arrivals by land totalled at 1,875,579, an increase of 12.1%; 1,788,760 arrived through the Border Gate and 86,819 through the Checkpoint of CoTai. Arrivals by air reached 373,775 (+6.5%); with 368,194 arrivals (+6.9%) at the Macao International Airport.
