-LIBRARY COi\1PUTER SYSTEi\1 The Library is in the process of

acquinng and in1plementing an online computer system. Installation will take place in several phases, based upon the software vendor's timetable and upon the hardware receipt schedule. \Vhen installation is complete, this integrated library system (!LS) will provide electronic access to bibliographic records of all materials collected by the HK UST Library.

\Ve are also exploring the possibility of developing gateways to other library computer systems, allowing you to directly access the records of materials held by other institutions - both locally and abroad. Additionally, selected databases of journal citations will be loaded onto the !LS to permit searches for relevant journal articles.

At the moment, hardware and soft\vare have been selected, and the procurement process is underway. Through the Fall, we will be installing the first software modules, acquisitions and serial control. By early Spring we \Vill load UST catalogue records, and the database will be made available to the University community via the existing computernehvork. Off-campus locations \Vill have access through the network's dial-up ports.

The final stages of the implemen-tation will take place after the move to Clear \Vater Bay next summer.

If you have any questions or concerns regarding this project, please contact the Systems Librarian, Don \Vas sink (e-mail:LBDOl\T\V, phone:xl 752).
