India is at war with its girls and women. The planned rape of eight-year-old Asifa in a temple by several men, including a policeman who later washed the clothes she was wearing to destroy evidence, was particularly horrific. Asifa’s rape has outraged and shaken the entire country. ____(61)_____. According to the National Crimes Records Bureau, in 2016 the rape of minor girls increased by 82% compared with the previous year. Chillingly, across all rape cases, 95% of rapists were not strangers but family, friends and neighbors.

The culturally sanctioned degradation of women is so complete that the prime minister of India, Narendra Modi, launched a national programme called BetiBachao (Save Our Girls). India can arguably be accused of the largest-scale human rights violation on Earth: the persistent degradation of the vast majority of its 650 million girls and women, and this includes the middle classes.

India’s women are traumatized in less obvious ways than by tanks in the streets, bombs and warlords. Our oppression starts innocuously: it occurs in private life, within families, with girls being locked up in their own homes. ____(62)_____, and that does not even want women to exist. And India also kills its women slowly. This violence is buried in the training of women in some deadly habits that invite human rights violations, but that are considered the essence of good womanhood. The first teaches girls to be afraid of their own bodies. When a girl is not supposed to exist, 1.3 billion people all pretend that girls don’t have bodies and especially no sexual parts. If girls do not have bodies, ____(63)_____, and if it does happen, it has to be denied, and if it cannot be denied, the girl must be blamed.

(4)

____(64)_____. To have a voice, to speak up, is to be recognized, to belong. But girls are trained in silence. They are told to be quiet, to speak softly, to have no opinions, no arguments, no conflicts. Silent women disappear. They are easy to ignore, overrule, and violate without repercussions.

Women in India whose sense of self has been worn down, by definition must depend on others, which only serves to breed fear and violence. ____(65)_____. Dependent women have no separate identity and are legitimate only as mothers, wives and daughters. Such women are trained to put duty over self.

Over the years, we have underestimated the power of culture in creating violence within families and countries. In order to reclaim the humanity, we need a national conversation about what it means to be a good woman and a good man in India today.

(A) speech is another basic human right

(B) this everyday violence is the product of a culture that bestows all power on men (C) sexual harassment is not possible

(D) yet sexual abuse in India remains widespread despite tightening of rape

laws in 2013

(E) but dependency is still presented as a virtuous habit and independence as

a bad characteristic.

Biodiversity, the essential variety of life forms on Earth, continues to decline in every region of the world, significantly reducing nature’s capacity to contribute to people’s well-being. Recently, one report includes four assessments covering Asia-Pacific as well as three other major regions of the world. Over 120 experts from 27 countries were involved in drafting the Asia-Pacific regional report.

The Asia-Pacific region, covering over 60 countries, is home to 17 of the 36 global biodiversity hotspots. Nearly 200 million people in the region directly depend on the forest for their forest products, medicine, food, fuel as well as other subsistence needs.

Biodiversity and ecosystem services contributed to rapid economic growth from 1990 to 2010, benefiting its more than 4.5 billion people. And yet the region faces unprecedented threats, from extreme weather events and sea level rise, to invasive alien species, agricultural intensification and increasing waste and pollution. For example, 60 percent of its grasslands are degraded due to

overgrazing by livestock, invasion by alien species, or conversion to agriculture,

resulting in a rapid decline of native flora and fauna. Eight of the top 10 most

plastic-polluted rivers in the world are in Asia; nearly 25 percent of the region’s endemic species are threatened.

The report also notes some important biodiversity successes, including increases in protected areas. Over the past 25 years, marine protected areas in the region increased by almost 14 percent and terrestrial protected areas by 0.3 percent. The assessment says that unsustainable aquaculture practices, overfishing and destructive harvesting mean that many exploitable fish stocks will decline considerably – and may even collapse – perhaps as soon as 30 years from now.

The report says climate change is also impacting the biodiversity, which plays an important role in species distributions, population sizes, and the timing of reproduction and migration. Increased frequencies of pest and disease outbreaks resulting from these changes may have additional negative effects on agricultural production and human well-being.

The assessment points to the value of ecosystem-based approaches, among others, lack of solid waste management, as well as air, water and land pollution as factors undermining gains in a number of the Sustainable Development Goals for many countries. One of the key policy options is to ensure that biodiversity conservation is integrated into key development sectors such as agriculture, fisheries, energy, tourism and finance. People need to ensure that the message of biodiversity conservation and its importance is reflected appropriately in these sectors. What the authorities should do right now is to involve local communities in biodiversity conservation, integrate biodiversity conservation into key development sectors, and promote cross-border regional collaboration for both landscapes and seascapes. With these factors combining altogether, the sustainable development is just around the corner.

(A)The lack of management and regulations causes the warning of Asia- Pacific biodiversity.

(B) Sustainable development is nowhere in sight if people do not take climate change into consideration.

(C) The authorities alone are the key to the success of biodiversity preservation. (D) Among all the biodiversity declining regions, Asia-Pacific biodiversity are the most devastating, which requires some urgent solutions.

7-Eleven Taiwan's operator President Chain Store Corp. announced that it has opened its first experimental unmanned store in its corporate headquarters, meanwhile rival Family Mart will be launching its first wave of technology concept stores making use of artificial intelligence to make coffee and offer other services.

Chain Store Corp. has officially launched an internal test run of what it is called "X-Store," which would be only the second such unmanned 7-Eleven in the world after one was launched in Seoul, South Korea in May of last year.

The first X-Store in Taiwan is located in corporate headquarters as during the initial testing phase it will only be open to internal company employees, and instead of staying open 24 hours or from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m., as the name implies, it will at this stage only be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The store will employ a variety of new software and hardware to operate a new series of services provided via facial recognition technology including "Face in," for entry to the store; "Face pay," to make payments; and "Face go," for checkout.

Many of these new technologies will be the first of their kind in the convenience store industry, including its Open point membership system, facial biometric identification, production identification, automated induction through its "open show case,""icash," smart voice interactivity, Internet of Things system utilization, hot spot analysis, microwave ovens with scanners, self service point of sales (POS) systems, electronic labels, robot greeters, and robot sweepers among other innovations.

Facing a rapidly aging demographic and the impact of new digital technology, Family Mart is expected to launch its first wave of technology concept stores in the first quarter and launched a video explaining the new innovations in automation in the beginning of 2018.

Family Mart estimates that through the adoption of Internet of Things (IoT) networking, big data, artificial intelligence (AI), and Radio-frequency identification (RFID), work processes will be streamlined enough to reduce the number of staff working hours by 858 hours per year.

Family Mart said that the uses of IoT applications and electronic shelf labeling technology can trim off the 1.5 hours it normally takes to update labels on the 3,500 items found in a typical store every two weeks. In addition, Family Mart said that the use of AI technology with coffee machines can greatly reduce the burden on store clerks during peak hours. RFID technology can accelerate the process of receiving packages that customers order for picking up later.

70. According to the passage, which of the following statements is TRUE about "X-store"?

(A) "X-store" has already been available for all the people in Taiwan. (B) Two X-stores are running currently, both of which are in Taiwan.

(C) The opening hours of X-store are just as the same as those of other 7-11 stores.

(D) The operations of payment and entrance of X-store are via facial recognition. 71. The word trim in the seventh paragraph is in closest meaning to ______?

(A) remove (B) reduce (C) revise (D) remain

72. According to the passage, which of the following can NOT be done via technology?
