(19) • 4. First isolated from Brassic pollen in 1979, brassinosteroids are steroids chemically similar to cholesterol and the sex hormones of animals. – a. Brassinosteroids induce cell elongation and division in the stem – b. They also retard leaf abscission and promote xylem differentiation.
