Placement Success for HKUST Business Graduates
July 6, 2005... Graduates of the School of Business and Management of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST Business School) have achieved great success in their job placement endeavors. A record high annual salary of HK$630,000 has been attained by one of the students of the Global Business program. Graduates of the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) programs have also received more offers and landed better jobs than in past years.
In the graduating class of the Global Business program, 19 out of the 21 students have already been employed. The second highest earner of the same cohort will receive an annual remuneration of HK$609,000. The students’ employers are both international investment banks. Such packages match those offered to graduates recruited from top international business schools worldwide.
Compared with last year’s highest annual income, HK$588,000, from the same program, those salaries represent increases of 3% and 7% respectively.
In addition to investment banks, other employers of this year’s Global Business graduates include major commercial banks, Big-4 accounting firms, and an aviation company.
Graduates from the BBA programs have also reported remarkable placement results. A finance graduate has received 7 offers including 5 from international finance and banking institutions, and 2 from renowned accounting firms. Another graduate who is from the second batch of self-financed mainland students has been employed by an international investment bank.
Prof. Kar Yan Tam, Associate Dean of the HKUST Business School, said this year’s job offers attained by HKUST business graduates sent a positive signal to multinationals that recruit globally for their operations in Hong Kong and Asia.
“We are pleased that the qualities of our students are being recognized. The continual success of our student placement provides strong evidence that undergraduate business education available in Hong Kong is effective in developing talent that can compete in the international job market,” he said.
The HKUST Business School offers 11 undergraduate programs which provide a holistic undergraduate business education experience to prepare students for a career in business. In addition to academic knowledge, students are offered opportunities to gain international exposure and learn from business executives through a multitude of enrichment activities including participation in international exchange program, case competitions, internships, mentoring and other soft skills training.
