Peking University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) held their first Adjunct Professors Appointment Ceremony today under the Academic Alliance formed between the two universities last year.

A total of 14 professors, all leading scholars in their respective research areas, received the certificates of appointment from Prof REN Yan Shen, Chairman of the University Council of Peking University, and Dr Vincent LO, Chairman of the HKUST Council.

Prof JIANG Shaoyu (Chinese language and literature) HKUST Professors appointed by Peking University Prof Wu-yi HSIANG (mathematics)

Prof Jay-Chung CHEN (mechanical engineering) Prof Tongxi YU (mechanical engineering)

Prof Roland CHIN (computer science) Prof Lung-fei LEE (economics)

Prof TING Pang-Hsin (humanities) Prof Hao CHANG (humanities)

The two universities inaugurated an Academic Alliance on 13 November 1998. Under the alliance, Peking University and HKUST collaborate in the following areas: training of graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, appointment of adjunct faculty, joint appointment of new faculty, cooperative research, and participation in the development of South China.

A recent example is the agreement signed in August this year between the Shenzhen Municipal People’s Government and the two universities on the creation of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Industrial, Educational and Research Institution in the Shenzhen High-Tech Industrial Park.
