said Peony Chiang Ka Fong (MARK, 2), BSU's O'Camp director.According to Peony, the camp gives students the right start.
“
Tertiary education is totally different from school;’ she said.“
The students need to be able to learn by themselves, make new friends, and strike the right balance between work and other activities.”
The BSU campers learn a lot from the second and third year students acting as leaders and helpe凶, notto mention a host of games and information sessions. Peony believes that advice could be useful long beyond the first semester.

Employers today want to see more than just good grades;' she said. "Ifthey can learn to balance their lives now, and fit in extra challenges, it will help them in the long run.”

These discussions have been in response to the final report of the University Grants Committee (UGC) on UST這 Teachin'gand Learning Quality Process Review (TLQPR), which was released in March.
By summer's end, the full Senate had met five times on the issue and set up six teach-ing and learning task forces to examine and make recommendations on curriculum

“
The best thing to come out of this proc-ess is that we have haif more opportunities for faculty members to sit down and share ideas;’said Prof K. C. Chan, Head of Finance and a member of the Senate task force on ·teaching evaluation.

that typhoon and rainstorm warnings are broadcast on TV and

MTR stations and many shops and buildings also display the
signal status. If Typhoon Signal 8 is hoisted, shops, services and

typhoon is forecast.
On campus, make sure that all windows are closed whenever any typhoon signal is hoisted. If you go on holiday during typhoon

Public transport and traffic information will be available through the e-mail or public address

If Signal 8 is lowered before 6:30 am, classes and exams will start from 8:30 am and you should

If it is lowered between 6:30 am and 12 noon, classes and work start from 2 pm. Generally, if it is

trouble understanding what
“
self-censorship”
meant. Then it was explained tome that some newspapers were deciding
what to print based on the possible economic impact on their business of what they printed.
But then it was explained to me that this
kind of reporting was what made the paper popular, and that was what freedom of the press was all about. Namely, a newspaper
should be able to decide what to print based
on the possible economic impact on 』 ts

Handover.’,I kind of like that term.First of all, it is probably equally distasteful to the British and the Chines巴, so if it is politically incorrect, at least it is even-handed in being so.
Second, it squnds quite a lot like

Of course, to be on the safe side, I

GENES 時, 3September 1997
For example, a publisher with business
interests in China might be reluqant to publish news critical of the Chinese

of the
lofty
principles of freedom of the press.I was, for a time, equally puzzled by the
fact that Jimmy L缸, publisherof
App

Dai切seemed to be such a hero to the overseas
press during their frantic search for stories on the Handover.
At first I thought it was because the paper
was published in Chinese, which the foreign correspondents couldn
’
t read. After all, whatever its political viewpoint
may
be, a lot of the stuff in the AppleDaily
is justsensa-tional gossip, and some of it is outright fabrication. The story reporting appearances on our campus.of the ghost of a child who allegedly drowned in the 恥roinches of water
I am sure glad that got cleared up.
Apparently, self-censorship is when
you
don’
t print stuff that may be true, and freedom of the press is when you do print. stuff that
may
be false, in each case forfinancial gain. I was sort of hoping the difference would be greater, but there it is.
