Online Briefing cum Sharing Sessions of the “Knowing More About IT” Programme of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer

Summary

The purpose of this circular memorandum is to invite primary schools to participate in the online briefing cum sharing sessions for the “Knowing More About IT” Programme of the Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO).

Details

2. The “Knowing More About IT” Programme is detailed in the Appendix. The programme is expected to be open for application starting from 1 September 2021. OGCIO will organise two online briefing cum sharing sessions on 29 June 2021 and 7 July 2021 to introduce the background information and application details of the programme to schools.

Online Briefing cum Sharing Sessions of the

“Knowing More About IT” Programme

Purpose

The Office of the Government Chief Information Officer (OGCIO) invites principals or teachers-in-charge of publicly-funded primary schools to participate in the briefing cum sharing sessions of the captioned programme.

Details

2. OGCIO will launch a three-year “Knowing More About IT” Programme from the 2021/22 school year. The programme aims to stimulate primary school students’ interest in IT and strengthen their basic knowledge in IT applications through ECAs, thereby enhancing their enthusiasm towards pursuing the study of STEM-related subjects and better preparing themselves for integration into the digital society in the future. Each publicly-funded primary school can apply for a funding grant of up to $400,000 from OGCIO for over three school years from 2021/22 to 2023/24 to organise IT-related extra-curricular activities (ECA), and procure IT equipment or professional services required for the ECA.

3. The funding scope of the “Knowing More About IT” Programme comprises the following two parts –

(a) Operating grant: for meeting expenditure on professional services, operating services and technical support services, etc. for IT-related ECAs; and

(b) One-off grant: for meeting upfront expenditure on hardware, software, equipment required for organising IT-related ECAs.

4. Schools may, on a voluntary basis, sign up for the programme and apply for the funding grant according to their own circumstances and needs, and use the funding flexibly within the funding scope mentioned above, while the maximum one-off grant for acquiring IT equipment is $200,000.

5. To provide schools with the introduction and application details of the above programme, OGCIO will organise two online briefing cum sharing sessions with details as follows:

Principals and teachers of interested schools are welcome to enrol by completing the registration form at https://www.it-lab.gov.hk/en/enrol-202106.php. Successful registration will be notified by email.
