Course Description
This course provides a lecture and lab based practice on introduction and related issues of the basics needed to master the fine detail of splints and prosthetics. This class includes the basic theory of splinting and prosthetics and their application to the design, fabrication, and evaluation of splints and prosthetics for patient care. This class also covers applied knowledge of pathology, kinesiology, anatomy, and biomechanics. It also features an abundance of illustrations and hands-on practices to show the detail. It includes quizzes, laboratory exercises, and case studies to help students grasp the basics of effective splinting techniques and skills.
Course Objectives
After the completion of this course, the student should be able to:
1. Understand the pathology, kinesiology, anatomy, and biomechanics of affected Region(s)
2. Provide proper treatment principles and practices according to clients’ needs, present lifestyle, level of participation, environmental supports and constraints, and interests
3. Familiar with the application to the design, fabrication, and evaluation of splints and the application & design of prosthetics
