The relations among parenting style, self-esteem and academic achievement 黃清松、謝智玲

ABSTRACT

The purpose of the study was to explore the relations among parenting style, self-esteem, and academic achievement. Furthermore, in this study, the author tries to examine that if the relations between parenting style and academic achievement were mediated by the self-esteem.The survey research was conducted by questionnaire. The subjects were 448 (207 male and 241 female students) senior high school students. They were sampled with convenience sampling strategy from Changhua County in Taiwan. The materials were used included (a) Parenting Style Questionnaire, and (b) Self-Esteem Scale. The data collected were analyzed by descriptive statistics,pearson product-moment correlation, simple regression and hierarchical regression analysis. The results are summarized as follows: 1.The parenting style, self-esteem, and academic achievement were associated. 2.Parenting style could positively predict self-esteem; self-esteem could positively predict academic achievement; Parenting style could positively predict academic achievement. 3.Self-esteem could be a mediator between parenting style and academic achievement under some circumstances.
