二、教學目標 二、教學目標 (Objective)

1.認知面:[使學生理解、應用、分析、綜合、比較、推論、評估本課程之理論與概念]:

The overall aim of the courses under the heading of “Delightful Extensive Reading” is to acquaint students with the notion of genre, both literary and non-literary, the knowledge of codes that are operative in the composition of any text and the historical situation in which it was composed. This course will provide intensive newspaper articles both in English and Chinese to train and enforce students the keys to translation; sharpen their analytical and time management skills that are necessary as a professional translator in the near future.

2.技能面[使學生能獲得運用與實做本課程理論與概念之技巧]:

The courses under this heading are designed to enhance students’ linguistic competence and cultural awareness. They are in particular designed to help students to acquire the related skills of reading, interpretation, and criticism. In other words, The courses are meant to enable students to read and then to produce text within text, upon text, and against text so as to cultivate their textual power.

3.情意面[能引發學生對本課程之興趣,激發學生學習動機,增加觸類旁通與自主學習]:

The courses under this heading are designed to expose students to different types of text in the form of news, thereby increasing their understanding of a given news text and its textual power. Upon completion of the course, students will be able to read news articles critically in terms of social context and translation strategies used. The development of their critical thinking will in this way be enhanced.

Our class is divided into 2 parts, Part 1: Journalistic English: Reading 新聞英文閱讀, which inclues 新聞英文概述/世界重要媒體 的線上新聞/新聞英文的閱讀策略/新聞英文用詞的特色, understanding English that are of Political Correctness or Politically Correct. It is also important for students to know 新聞英文句法的特色 such as 擴展的簡單句 (Expanded Simple Sentences) 簡化 的副詞子句 (Reduced Adverbial Clauses) 直接和間接引述 (Direct and Indirect Quotations)and 主動語態 (Active Voice). After introducing the above stated, I will then introduce the structure of English News Writing 新聞英文篇章的架構such as the 標題 (Headlines)導言 (Leads) and 本體 (The Body) Part 2 of this course consists of the core in Journalistic English, for Translation, I will focus on 翻譯概述/新聞翻譯概述/新聞詞彙翻譯/新聞句子翻譯/新聞段落翻譯. Of course, to better master News translation, you need to build up a bank of vocabulary so that the words you select/use for your translation will be precise and accurate. Thus, be prepared to be quizzed frequently. I am positive after this course, you will be more confident of your English ability in all ways.
