THE HK UNIVFRSITY OF SCIFNCE AND TFCHNOLOGY

NNOUNCF,S MAJOR DONATION

A donation of $5 million is to be presented today to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology by Mr Chow Yei Ching, Chairman and Managing Director of Chevalier International Holdings Ltd.

The University will name a lecture theatre after his father, the late Mr Chow Tak Sin (1.8994976). The University will also name a forum after his mother, the late Mdm Chen Kuan Cheng (18974977).

Professor Chia-Wei Woo, Vice-Chancellor and President, and Sir S.Y. Chung, Council Chairman, will attend the dedication ceremony where a plaque will be unveiled.

Over 70 guests, including Mr Leo T.H. Lee, OBE, JP, Mr Rober Lo, JP, Mr Dennis H.S. Ting, OBE, JP, Mr Jin De Qin, Sir Robert T.C. Lu, Mr Eddie T.Y.Lu, CBE, Prof C.K. Poon, OBE, JP, have been invited to attend the ceremony.

“Education is a society’s infrastructure,” Mr Chow commented when asked about his donation. “HKUST is the first university in Hong Kong devoted to science and technology. These are fundamental to our future society, and I feel we must support the University’s mission.*’

This is the first large donation that Mr Chow has given to support higher education in Hong Kong. In the past he has given generously to charitable organisations and to hospitals. He is also a major supporter of a hospital in his hometown Zhoushan of Ning Bo in China.
