Visitor Arrivals

October 2016

Visitor arrivals by sea decreased by 4.0% year-on-year, while those arriving by land and by air increased by 3.7% and 13.1% respectively.

Visitors from Mainland China rose modestly by 0.4% year-on-year, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme (864,046) rising by 9.1%. Visitors from the Republic of Korea, Hong Kong and Taiwan grew by 22.1%, 1.8% and 4.3% respectively. Long-haul visitors from the United States, Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom increased year-on-year.

Visitor arrivals totalled 2,678,447, up by 1.6% year-on-year. Overnight visitors rose by 12.1%, while same-day visitors dropped by 7.6%. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.2 days, up by 0.1 day year-on-year. Total visitor arrivals in the first ten months edged up by 0.2% year-on- year and the average length of stay of visitors went up by 0.1 day to 1.2 days.
