– Visitor arrivals by land and by sea decreased by 1.1% and 2.8% respectively year-on-year, while those by air increased by 13.5%.

Visitors from Mainland China increased by 1.9% year-on-year, with those travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme edging down by 0.4% to 1,002,628.

Visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan dropped by 10.5% and 1.9% respectively, while those from the Republic of Korea grew by 30.8%. Meanwhile, visitors from the United States, Canada, Australia and the United Kingdom registered decreases.

Visitor arrivals totalled 2,866,400, down slightly by 0.6% year-on-year, attributable to the catastrophic typhoon on 23 August. Same-day visitors went down by 6.2% while overnight visitors increased by 4.8%. The average length of stay of visitors was 1.3 days, up by 0.1 day year-on-year. In the first eight months of 2017, visitor arrivals totalled 21,348,656, up by 4.4% year-on-year.
