Visitor Arrivals
Growth in visitor arrivals slowed after the increases during the Easter and Labour Day holidays. Visitors from Mainland China totalled 1,597,289, up by 9% year-on-year; Mainland visitors travelling under the Individual Visit Scheme rose by 11%, at 672,405. Visitors from Taiwan, the Republic of Korea and Japan increased further by 12%, 24% and 25% respectively year- on-year, while those from Hong Kong decreased by 8%. Long-haul visitors from the United States registered year-on-year increase; on the contrary, those from Australia, Canada and the United Kingdom marked decline.
Visitor arrivals increased by 5% year-on-year to 2,432,041; same-day visitors accounted for 53% of the total. In the first half year of 2014, visitor arrivals reached 15,283,847, up by 8% year-on-year.
The average length of stay of visitors was 1.0 day; overnight and same-day visitors stayed an average of 1.9 days and 0.2 day respectively.
