Ref.: EDB(CD/C&S)/SC/1/0/1(7) Date: 12 April 2017

To: Supervisors and heads of primary and secondary schools

(excluding English Schools

Foundation schools and international schools)

Ongoing Renewal of the School Curriculum:

Briefing Sessions on the Updated Key Learning Area Curriculum Guides (P1 – S6) and General Studies Curriculum Guide (P1 – P6)

(Note: Please circulate this circular memorandum among teachers of the eight Key Learning Areas and primary General Studies, and encourage them to enrol for the

briefing sessions.)

Summary

This circular memorandum invites primary and secondary schools to attend the briefing sessions on the updated Key Learning Area Curriculum Guides (KLACGs) and latest development of the General Studies (GS) for Primary Schools Curriculum Guide to be held between April and July 2017.

Details

2. Curriculum development in Hong Kong has entered an era of ongoing renewal.

Between November 2015 and February 2016, a series of briefing sessions cum territory- wide school surveys was arranged to share with schools the proposed updates of the eight Key Learning Areas (KLAs) as well as to gauge their valuable comments and suggestions for the way forward. Following professional deliberations in the Curriculum Development Council (CDC) Committees of the respective KLAs and ongoing feedback collection from various channels, the CDC gave its final recommendation to the updated Key Learning Area Curriculum Guides (KLACGs) in December 2016. In addition, the GS curriculum has been updated. Between November 2016 and January 2017, school briefing sessions on the proposed updates and recommendations of the GS for Primary Schools Curriculum Guide were conducted, coupled with a territory-wide school survey to collect views from schools.

3. To share with schools the major updates and related support measures of the eight KLAs and GS, briefing sessions will be held from April to July 2017. Primary and secondary school personnel of the respective KLAs are invited to enrol for the briefing sessions. Since the briefing sessions are conducive to deepening teachers’ understanding of the future directions of the eight KLAs and GS for primary schools, school heads are advised to encourage their teaching staff to enrol in the sessions as far as practicable.

Please refer to the Annex for the details of the respective briefing sessions. For enrolment, please apply via the Education Bureau (EDB)’s Training Calendar System.
