Parent Education

“Unite for a Better Internet” Information Kit on e-Learning

Purpose

This circular memorandum aims to inform all primary and secondary schools to collect the captioned Information Kit. Schools are invited to participate in the upcoming briefing sessions on the use of the Information Kit.

Background

2. The Fourth Strategy on Information Technology in Education (ITE4) has been launched since 2015/16 school year. Currently, there is about 80% of primary and secondary schools providing WiFi connection for conducting e-learning in class. For the rest of the schools, such infrastructure will also be provided by 2017/18 school year. Some schools are now formulating Bring Your Own Device (BYOD) policy to facilitate students’ personalised learning within and beyond school campus. Hence, information literacy and e-safety are getting important. To further strengthen home-school cooperation and enhance parents’

know-how on e-learning and health issues of using mobile computing devices, the Information Technology in Education Section of Education Bureau has produced a “Unite for a Better Internet” Information Kit on e-Learning (Information Kit) for use by schools when conducting parent education.

3. The Information Kit contains a poster (Annex 1), a parent leaflet (Annex 2), a set of presentation slides for parent education and a short video of about 5 minutes on an overview of e-learning. The set of presentation slides and the video are available on an Information Kit website at HKEdCity (http://www.hkedcity.net/parent/elearning), which is also accessible through the QR code printed on the poster and leaflet. The content of the Information Kit and other relevant references are available for parents on the above website.

School Heads are requested to complete the collection form (Annex 3) and make arrangement to collect the posters and leaflets needed at the respective Regional Education Offices from 15 May to 15 June 2017.

4. When conducting e-learning by students, parents raise concerns on the eye health.

Therefore we developed an eye care app ( 香 港 學 童 的 眼 睛 護 理 ) to provide useful information to encourage healthy use of mobile computing devices and proper protection of eyesight. The app has been launched by HKEdCity. The online version is accessible on the Information Kit website and the app is available on Google Play and Apple Store.

5. Please display the posters in schools and distribute the leaflets to parents.

Schools are advised to flexibly use the content of Information Kit for parent education regarding e-learning.

Briefing sessions

6. We will organise two briefing sessions, one for primary school teachers and one for secondary school teachers, to introduce the Information Kit on 28 and 29 June 2017 respectively. Schools are invited to nominate one representative to attend the sessions and enrol through the Training Calendar System [Course ID: EI0020170214 & EI0020170216].

Enquiry

7. For enquiries on collection of posters and leaflets, please contact the respective Regional Education Offices. For enquiries on the use of the Information Kit and briefing sessions, please contact Ms Cecilia WONG of Information Technology in Education Section, Education Bureau at 3698 3609.
