I. Course Objectives ： This course is designed to enhance students’
reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary skills and practice some valuable reading strategies. By the end of the course, students will be able to:
1. effectively skim and scan an article to get the main idea 2. guess the meaning of unfamiliar vocabulary from the context
3. express their opinions about various topics answer detailed questions by paraphrasing information from a text and most importantly
4. find reading interesting and enjoyable.
II. Course Description：
1. Students will read a wide variety of topics, including sports, culture and society, entertainment, the natural world, business and technology and share their opinions, insights, and reflections with class.
2. Students will have pair work, small group discussion and presentation, and role play about the assigned materials.
III. Textbook：
World English(2): Kristin Johannsen& Rebecca Tarver Chase, By Heinle, Cengage Learning(2010)

1. ALL+ Interactive English 2. Live ABC Interactive English
V. Teaching Approach：
Regular lecture, Group discussion, Role-play, and Presentation
VI. Class Requirements：
1. Attendance：Come to class on time. Students who are 10 minutes late will be marked absent for 1 hour. 6 hours of absences will result in failure of the course.
2. Participation：Come to class with enthusiasm, cooperative, and all necessary materials. You are expected to regularly share your opinions, insights, doubts, and reflections with your teacher and peers.
3. Assignments：Students should complete all assignments before class.
All assignments have to be printed in A4 papers unless announced beforehand.
4. Quizzes：Students will have a regular quiz after each unit finished. No make-ups for any quizzes.
VII. Evaluation Criteria：
1. Quizzes, Assignments, Attendance & Participation：35%
2. Group Presentation：10%
3. Midterm：25%
4. Final：30%
*Be aware that each member has to contribute to the presentation in some ways.
