HKUST HOSTS LECTURE “A UNIVERSITY FOR THE INFORMATION AGE” University of Pennsylvania president, Professor Judith Rodin, will speak on the challenges facing higher education in the digital age on Friday, 29 March 1996 at 1 pm at the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology’s Lecture Theatre C.
One of only a handful of women leading major US universities, Prof Rodin also serves on President Bill Clinton’s Committee of Advisors on Science and Technology and chairs the Universities Research Association Council of Presidents.
She holds faculty appointments as a professor of psychology in University of Pennsylvania’s School of Arts and Sciences and as a professor of medicine and psychiatry in the School of Medicine. She is an elected member of the US National Academy of Sciences, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the American Philosophical Society.
A respected research scientist and leading university administrator, Prof Rodin is eminently qualified to talk about technology’s transformation of the university experience.
“How can our undergraduates experience in their lives on campus, the same kind of complexity and interconnectedness they will confront in the so-called real world?” she asks.
Her answers to this and many other important questions point the way to the next century.
The Public Affairs lecture is organized by the Office of Public Affairs and the Office of Academic Affairs.
