HKUST GRADUATES SUCCEED IN JOB MARKET
Nearly 97% of the students graduating in 1995 have gone on to full-time employment or full-time graduate study, according to a survey conducted by the Student Affairs Office of the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Of the 1,104 bachelor’s degree recipients in 1995, 1,100 responded to the survey. This was the University’s second undergraduate class.
Of those who responded, 87% are fully employed or self-employed while 10% opted for further studies. Of the 111 graduates pursuing further studies, the majority (77%) chose to continue their studies at HKUST.
“We find the employment record of our graduates highly satisfactory,” says Mrs Lisa Hau, Senior Student Counsellor at the Student Counselling Service & Careers Centre. “The feedback from employers has been encouraging. Many are very impressed by our graduates’ dynamic outlook, enthusiasm and confidence.”
The commercial and business sector employed the largest number of graduates (67%), followed by the manufacturing and industries sector (15%) and education (8%).
Marketing and sales (18%)‘ systems analysis and computer programming (17%), engineering (170/o), accounting (13%) and administration and management (11%) are the five major lines of work taken up by HKUST graduates.
Among the 896 employed respondents, 67% said they had received more than one job offer, 36% more than two and 16% more than three.
Of the 938 respondents, 80% had received their first job offer by August.
