COMPUTER MUSIC CONCERTS AT HKUST
Secondary school students as well as teachers and visitors to the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology are invited to sample some of the latest developments and compositions in the burgeoning field of computer music later this month in a series of free computer music concerts.
The series of four one-hour concerts, each of which will include an introduction and a question-and-answer session,
Computer Music with Videos“. Other concerts will feature computer music by women, starts on 27 April with “Sight and Sound: and music and composers from Hong Kong.
“This will just be a taste of the huge variety of computer music,” says Dr Lydia Ayers, who is organizing the concerts. “Computer music is many things, and it’s impossible for one concert series to cover all of it.”
Audiences can expect to see and hear multi-media pieces incorporating computer music played back on a tape, and live performers playing along with a recorded tape. “This last one is a little bit like karaoke,” says Dr Ayers. “But the musical style is completely different and in our concerts the performer will not necessarily be a singer.”
“Computer music straddles the traditional boundaries between technology and art and is drawing increasing interest from composers, musicians and the general public,” says Dr Ayers. “This is a great opportunity for students and the general public to sample it for themselves.” Details are as follows:
