Visiting museum or World Heritage site
• A total of 302,300 individuals participated in cultural activities, accounting for 54.9% of the population aged 16 and above, up by 2.1 percentage points year-on-year.
• Local residents participating in cultural activities totalled 257,900; the cultural activity participation rate was 59.2%, up by 1.2 percentage points year- on-year. The respective participation rate for male and female local residents was 58.8% and 59.6%, up by 1.2 and 1.1 percentage points.

• Watching movies at the cinema remained the most popular cultural activity for local residents, with 169,800 participants, up by 7.6% year-on-year;
followed by going to libraries (114,400) and visiting museums or World Heritage sites (113,900), up by 3.1% and 19.1% respectively.
Local residents participating in three or more types of cultural activities accounted for 29.6% of the total, up by 2.0 percentage points year-on-year;
meanwhile, the proportion of those taking part in only one type of cultural activity (41.5%) dropped by 3.2 percentage points.

As the government organised a number of film screenings in support of Macao films and videos, local residents who had watched locally- produced films and videos rose notably by 58.5% year-on-year to 35,100, accounting for 20.7% of the local residents going to the cinema, up by 6.7 percentage points.

Analysed by industry, local employed residents engaging in Education had the highest participation rate for this activity (47.5%), followed by those working in Public Administration & Social Security (37.6%).
Local residents going to libraries totalled 114,400, up by 3.1% year-on- year; the activity participation rate rose by 0.5 percentage points to 26.3%.

SURVEY ON PARTICIPATION OF RESIDENTS IN CULTURAL ACTIVITIESLocal residents aged 45-54 had the highest participation rate for going to libraries, at 22.6%, up by 4.6 percentage points year-on-year.
The participation rate of students stood at 68.0%, up by 4.3 percentage points year-on-year, more than triple the rate of non-students (22.0%).
The participation rate of students going to the cinema continued to rise, up by 5.4 percentage points year-on-year to 76.4%; the rate of non- students was 35.1%, up by 2.1 percentage points.

Local residents going to the cinema to watch movies increased by 7.6%
year-on-year to 169,800; the activity participation rate was 39.0%, up by 2.3 percentage points.
Going to the cinema was the most popular activity among youngsters.
The respective participation rate of local residents aged 16-24 (77.0%) and 25-34 (71.6%) rose by 5.3 and 4.7 percentage points year-on-year.

year-on-year; the activity participation rate rose slightly by 0.3 percentage points to 8.8%. The average attendance per participant edged up by 0.1 to 2.2.

Among the local residents attending performances, 97.9% attended performances in Macao and 6.2% attended performances outside Macao, similar to the respective proportions a year earlier.
Music/dance performances were more popular among local residents, with 65,500 participants (72.3%), while theatre performances had 45,200 participants (50.0%), down by 2.8% and 3.2% respectively year-on-year.

Local residents attending performances totalled 90,500, down by 0.7%
year-on-year; the activity participation rate decreased by 0.4 percentage points to 20.8%. The average attendance per participant remained unchanged from a year earlier, at 2.3.
Among the local residents going to art exhibitions, 97.7% attended exhibitions held in Macao, up by 1.3 percentage points year-on-year; the proportion of those attending exhibitions outside Macao increased by 0.7 percentage points to 6.9%.
Local residents attending art exhibitions participated more actively in cultural activities; 95.7% of them also participated in other types of cultural activities, and 51.6% took part in four or more types of activities, up by 3.0 percentage points year-on-year.
Among the local residents aged 55 and above, 72.5% of those attending performances had watched theatre; the average attendance per participant rose by 0.4 year-on-year to 2.9, being the highest among all age groups.

The main reasons for not participating in cultural activities were “ No interest” and “No time”.
Among the various cultural activities, the proportion of those not participating due to “No interest” registered year-on-year increase; 64.8%
of those not attending art exhibitions and 64.0% of those not attending performances indicated that they had “No interest”.
