Abstract
The aim of this research is to apply the water-based pigment ink and
eco-solvent pigment ink into the hydrophilic PU membrane and micro porous PU membrane using digital printing technology. Further on to laminate the digital printed membrane to 15 D and 20 D thin denier fabrics individually, this research also discusses the characteristics of the moisture permeability, hydrostatic pressure, friction fastness, water resistant fastness, light fastness and so on of these digital printed breathable waterproof membrane fabrics. The result showed that the micro porous PU membrane with the eco-solvent pigment ink has higher ink receptivity, excelled clarity, better hue and color saturation than that of the water-based pigment ink. Other properties, however, reflect similar results. These properties are the hydrostatic pressure (JIS
L1092 5.1.2 B ) above 10000 mm H2O, the dry friction fastness of dyeing 4-5
levels, the wet friction fastness of dyeing 3 levels (the AATCC 8-2005 ), water resistant fastness of dyeing 4-5 levels (AATCC 61-ɛA 2006 ) and light fastness of dyeing 4-5 levels (AATCC 16-3-2004 20 hours). Other than the above, moisture permeability (JIS L1099 A1 ) shows the difference, the water-based pigment ink printed membrane is 5100~5500 g/m2/day, the eco-solvent pigment ink printed membrane is 7000~8000 g/m2/day. And, the moisture permeability drops to 3500~5000 g/m2/day of the laminated 15 D and 20 D thin denier fabrics with digital printed membrane, the other properties show little differences.
The properties of laminated 15 D and 20 D thin denier breathable fabrics with digital printed membrane and general breathable waterproof fabrics are
similar except moisture permeability. But this technology contributes to less water pollution and creates non-solid waste. Furthermore, the products have higher ink receptivity, clarity, color degree, and better hue and color saturation. In the future, this technology can be applied to thin, light, bright color and fashionable high-quality textiles.
