The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) announces the appointment of Prof Yuk Shee CHAN as Dean of Business and Management. With his leadership the School will seek to fulfil its mandate.of becoming the premier business school in Asia.

“The next few years will be an important stage in the development of the School, I’ he said. “We will be adding 60 to 70 faculty members, our students will be released into the market and we will be developing links between the School and business and industry.”

“We are well placed in the booming Asia Pacific region” he added, ” and eventually we can expect to achieve world prominence.”

Among the projects that are key to the School’s plans are two new research institutes that will be established this year, one on econom.ic development in China, and the other on Asian financial markets.

A native of Hainan, China, Prof Chan received his first degree from the Chinese University of Hong Kong. Later, at the University of California, Berkeley, he earned an MBA, an MA in Economics, and a PhD in Finance and Economics. He came to HKUST in 1991 as the Deputy Head of the Department of Finance and Economics. Since 1992 he has been the Chairman of Faculty of the School of Business and Management. Before joining HKUST, he was the Justin Dart Term Professor of Finance at the University of Southern California.
