The number of visitor arrivals in Macau, by different modes of transport, was 709,592 in August 1998 which showed an increase of 30.8% compared with the same month of 1997.
In the first eight months of 1998, there was a total number of 4,718,049 visitors arrived by sea (through Outer Harbour and Pier No. 14), by land, and by air, represented a decrease of 2.6% over the same period of 1997.
In the period of analysis, visitor arrivals by sea (through Outer Harbour) recorded a decrease of 2.9%, at 3,180,420 over the same period of 1997. Visitor arrivals by air totalled at 335,000, represented a decrease of 7.1%. The number of visitor arrivals through the Macau International Airport decreased by 7.3% over the same period of last year, at 320,288.
There were 1,119,057 visitors arrived by land, equivalent to a decrease of 2.4% over the same period of 1997.
