VISITOR ARRIVALS
In April 2001, the number of visitor arrivals in Macao was 932,426, a record-breaking number since the compilation of the monthly visitor arrivals in official statistics, equivalent to an increase of 16.1% over April 2000. Same-day visitors accounted for 44.5% of the total arrivals, with 414,472. Visitors came mainly from Hong Kong (53.5%), Mainland China (25.6%), Taiwan (14.8%) and Japan (1.2%).
In the first four months of 2001, the cumulative number of visitor arrivals reached 3,385,508, up 13.7% over the same period of 2000. At the same time, 1,477,326 were same-day visitors (43.6% of the total).
Compared with the first four months of 2000, the cumulative number of arrivals by sea rose 0.4%, with 1,772,135.
Among these visitors, 1,722,417 arrived at the Outer Harbour, which represented a 4.2% growth. Arrivals by land totalled at 1,339,753, an increase of 40.3%, 1,308,800 arrived through the Border Gate and 30,953 visitors arrived through the Checkpoint of CoTai. A rrivals by air went up 5.9%, with 273,620; meanwhile, arrivals at the Macao International Airport increased by 7.0%, with 267,876.
